You need to create a hierarchical diagram and insert it into your paper.
What do you do? Make Microsoft Word work for you!
This tutorial shows screenshots as you will see it in Word 2010. The 2007 version of the program is slightly different; if the instructions below are confusing, see the button at the bottom of the page to view a video of working with 2007.
Go to the Insert ribbon > Illustrations > SmartArt:
Click on SmartArt and this dialogue box will appear:
By default, the hierarchal chart is pre-selected (it's the one at the top left). Click OK.
The chart that now shows on your page has several blue shapes that are connected by lines and have "click to add text" in each shape. This is simple enough: click inside the shapes and type your text!
Adding Shapes
Click on a shape's edge so that dots appear at strategic points, and the shape is "active":
In the Format ribbon, find the Insert section. The links there will produce various results:
Original: "Parent" is active |
Add Subordinate |
Add Assistant |

If you click on one of the children, you can choose to Add Coworker - this would produce another child. |

Style editing
- Font style and size: use the regular tools on the Home ribbon.
- Shape color: click on the shape's edge. Make sure the Format ribbon is the one in the foreground, look for styles > Shape Fill, and choose your color.
